PCLinuxOS goes the extra mile

Ever since my exploration of the various PCLinuxOS spins, I’ve been impressed with the project. Now that I’m having so much relative success with Ubuntu 8.04 LTS, it’s unlikely that I will be running PCLinuxOS on my Gateway Solo 1450 laptop, but a) you never know and b) I’m looking for a good system to install for others, and PCLinuxOS is a top contender in that department.

Sony Ericsson puts a Flash into Java

Sony Ericsson is planning to offer developers the opportunity to embed Flash Lite applications inside J2ME midlets, in the hope that two mobile phone application platforms will prove better than one. Flash Lite has proved popular for highly-graphical mobile phone applications, and is supported on quite a range of handsets. J2ME is more widely supported and flexible, but suffers from compatibility issues and isn’t very graphic artist friendly.

LDAP Account Manager 2.3.0 (Default branch)

LDAP Account Manager makes it possible to manage various account types (Unix, Samba, and Kolab) in an LDAP directory. It also features an external script for managing quotas and home directories.

rinse 1.1 (Default branch)

EuNet 1.2.2 (Default branch)

EuNet provides cross-platform socket networking
support to the Euphoria programming language. It
includes convenience functions to add HTTP
retrieval, SMTP transmission, and IMAP retrieval
to your programs with a minimal amount of code.

Code Browser 3.1 (Default branch)

Code Browser is a folding and outlining editor.
It is a lightweight but powerful tool for
structuring and browsing source code using
folders and links. It is especially designed to
keep a good overview of the code of a large
project.

The editor is now Unicode. It can load UTF-8 and UTF-16 files. This release also adds the zenburn color scheme and fixes minor bugs.

DOLFIN 0.7.3 (Default branch)

DOLFIN is the C++ interface of the FEniCS project for the Automation of Computational Mathematical Modeling (ACMM), providing a consistent PSE (Problem Solving Environment) for solving ordinary and partial differential equations. Key features include a simple, consistent and intuitive object-oriented API; automatic and efficient evaluation of variational forms through FFC; automatic and efficient assembly of linear systems; and support for general families of finite elements.

Changes:
With this release replaces the old Autotools build system with a new Scons-based build system. Other changes include improved interfaces for linear algebra, both in C++ and Python, now also including interfaces to Trilinos (Epetra) in addition to existing interfaces for PETSc and uBLAS. In addition, plotting has been improved, finite element solutions may be evaluated efficiently in arbitrary points (using GTS), and boundary meshes are positively oriented with respect to outward facets normals. Various minor improvements and bugfixes have also been made.

Instant 0.9.4 (Default branch)

Instant is a Python module that allows for instant
inlining of C and C++ code in Python. It is a
small Python module built on top of SWIG.

Various new examples with swiginac and sympy have been implemented. A bug on 64-bit systems has been fixed. The director flag is removed by default.

SyFi 0.5.1 (Default branch)

The finite element package SyFi is a C++ library
built on top of the symbolic math library GiNaC.
The name SyFi stands for Symbolic Finite Elements.
The package provides polygonal domains, polynomial
spaces, and degrees of freedom as symbolic
expressions that are easily manipulated. This
makes it easy to define finite elements.
